Playscape News – May 2016 Newsletter

A Playscape Baby!

Congratulations to Dave Jones (our website designer) and his wife Carrie who welcomed little Alexa into the world on the 12th April. The team wish you all the best whilst adjusting to the joys of now being a family of 4! It’s thanks to Dave, of Platform Twenty, that we have our website to keep you up to date with all Playscape news. Check out the Draft Masterplan!

Other New Beginnings?

The hugely popular Shelford Fun Run is sadly not running this year. Despite building the event into a very successful local 5km run the organisers simply couldn’t commit any more time to it. However, do not despair! Playscape have been in talks with the Fun Run team and we hope to bring it back with a bang in 2017!

To achieve this we need a dedicated Fun Run Sub-committee of half-a-dozen people and have two willing volunteers already. With a team that size it won’t be onerous, but it does require a steady pace of organisation through out the year (organising sponsorship, road closures, participants etc). The former organisers are keen to see the Shelford Fun Run return and have pledged to share the systems they’ve established – It’s a well-oiled machine which just needs some more hands on deck to keep it running (ahem) each year.

And just to clarify…

It has been reported locally that the Great Shelford Council Tax increase includes “money for the playscape playground project”. This interpretation is not correct. The PC have indeed donated £5k to the appeal so far, and accept that there may come a time for more financial support, however the success of the Playscape project lies firmly on our fundraising efforts. To quote the Parish Clerk:

“At no time have we used Playscape proposal as a reason for spending increase, it is principally Highways and land acquisition proposals to expand the provision of recreational space.”

So in essence, we still need your ongoing support to realise this vision. Speaking of which, we will update you on the success of It’s a Knockout properly soon, but in the mean time check out this great write up and visit our Facebook page for photos!
