08 ACTIVE TRAIL
For the next phase of the Great Shelford Playscape masterplan, we have some new proposals to share!
3×3 Basketball
The current basketball hoop is a little lonely all by itself, and has minimal playability. Our proposal is to enlarge the current space ever so slightly (to 15m x 11m) to transform it into a 3×3 basketball court – as used in the exciting new Olympic sport that uses one hoop, 2 teams of 3, with fast and furious games!
Active Trail
Something for the fitness fans, is the idea of a trail of workout equipment along the western edge of the rec down towards the basketball area.
We propose static wooden apparatus (click here for some examples: horizontal monkey bars, pull up bars, parallel bars and various balancing beams), to complement the style of the main playscape play equipment and be sensitive to the conservation area setting. This style of equipment enables more than one person to use it at once or in multiple ways, using body weight to create resistance, so that they work for everyone.
The exact make and equipment pieces will be chosen after competitive quotes have been received, and locations will be chosen to ensure they do not interfere with the sports pitches or other uses of the recreation ground.
In order to make a successful grant application to fund these initiatives, Great Shelford Parish Council need to demonstrate support from our community (link below). It would be fabulous if you could share the survey with friends and neighbours, school friends, children and grandparents.
Thank you!
