Update from Shelford Fun Run 2020
Despite the fact we could not be together in the traditional sense this year for the Shelford Fun Run, our community were still to be able to take part virtually by walking or running their chosen 5k route and connecting with each other online. We had participants joining from far afield including social media posts shared from Wales and Austria!
Due to restrictions on social gatherings, we had to unfortunately cancel the medal collection event we had planned, but we made sure all our participants received their medals (thanks Jenny for hand delivering and posting them all!). Do share your medal selfies with us using #ShelfordSelfie or #ShelfordFunRun.
Although we didn’t focus on winning times this year (due to everyone running their own routes) we do want to say huge congratulations to those who logged the fastest times:
- Chris Smith (Male) – 00:19:35
- Liz Carrothers (Female) – 00:23:25
- Nate D (U18) – 00:24:28
- Laurence M (U11) – 00:25:57
We also want to give a particular shout out to Willow B, a competitor who despite finding walking very difficult due to a rare genetic condition, took on the challenge to carry out the 5k walk with her mum over a series of days to help encourage the family to get out and about after COVID shielding had paused.
The event raised just over £500, which will go towards the Great Shelford Playscape fund, and we are delighted with this amount and thank our runners for their continued support. This event usually raises around £4000, so if you were unable to take part, but would still like to make a donation, please click the ‘donate now‘. A date for the Fun Run in September 2021 will be announced soon.
